The two blossom trees, oil on canvas, 75x60cm

This thickly painted oil on canvas, 75 x60cm was inspired by imaginary white blossom trees. The delicate white blossoms evoke a sense of tranquility and renewal, their gentle fragrance carrying a subtle sweetness that soothes the senses and uplifts the spirit. White blossom trees have long been admired for their beauty and are believed to possess healing properties, offering comfort and hope with their pure petals and calming presence. In many cultures, the sight and scent of white blossoms symbolise new beginnings and emotional cleansing.

The number two holds deep spiritual significance, representing balance, harmony, and partnership. It symbolises duality—the coming together of opposites—and serves as a reminder of unity through difference. In poetry, two is celebrated for its ability to evoke the beauty of connection and the dance of pairs, whether in nature, relationships, or the world of ideas. The poetic value of two lies in its suggestion of companionship, reflection, and the endless possibilities found when two elements meet and create something new.

However, I have put one tree in front of the other to illustrate independence, and the awareness of non-attachment is a principle valued in many cultures and philosophies, emphasising the importance of not clinging to material objects or fleeting experiences. Practising non-attachment invites us to appreciate beauty and abundance without becoming dependent on them for our sense of self or happiness. In Buddhism, non-attachment is central to spiritual growth and inner peace; it teaches that suffering arises from our tendency to grasp at what is impermanent. By letting go of attachment, particularly to material possessions, we open ourselves to greater freedom, resilience, and compassion. In other traditions, non-attachment is viewed as a path to clarity and balance, allowing us to engage fully with life while remaining open to change. Embracing non-attachment helps us find contentment in the present moment and fosters a deeper connection to what truly matters.
